↳ DETAILS

“Ruido en el sistema” is the first major compilation dedicated to artists from the Cuban underground, released via Ultramar. The cover centers on a damaged digital object, using noise and deterioration as key visual elements.

Created with editing support from Daku, the artwork depicts a scratched CD marked with the initials “RNS” and partially covered by a strip of black tape. These interventions introduce ideas of wear, interruption, and interference, reflecting the context in which the compilation was produced.

Within the Cuban context, where access to information and technology has often been limited, the altered CD takes on a different meaning. Rather than functioning as a simple storage medium, it becomes a symbol of adaptation and reuse. The artwork also references Maurizio Cattelan’s “Comedian” and Kanye West’s “Yeezus”, reworking aspects of their visual language through a more direct and materially grounded approach.

Instead of presenting censorship as a blank space or absence, the cover focuses on its visible traces. Scratches, tape, and interference become part of the image itself, suggesting the ways expression continues to exist despite restriction. In this sense, noise is not treated as a flaw, but as evidence of persistence.
